Asilah Day Trip from Tangier

€95 for the Economy car for the whole day, not a per-person rate. Six people pay the same as a couple, because the fifth and sixth seat carry no surcharge. It covers the driving, all three stops, the driver waiting at Cap Spartel, at the Caves of Hercules, at the beach below them and for the four hours you are in Asilah, and the run back to Tangier at the end. There is nothing to add on: the beach stop is in the fare. Pickup at Tangier airport (TNG) is the same price as pickup at a city hotel. If you want more room the Comfort SUV is €105 for up to 4, and the seven-seat van is €120. Both are fixed per vehicle in the same way.

About eight and a half hours door to door, the beach stop included, and the start is yours to pick: any hour from 8 to 11 in the morning. This is a private car carrying your party and nobody else, so there is no departure to be at. Name the hour when you book and the whole day follows from it. What does not really compress is the shape: about an hour at Cap Spartel, about forty-five minutes at the Caves of Hercules, about half an hour at the beach below them, about four hours in Asilah, and a little over two hours of driving spread across the day. The car is only moving for those two hours or so. The rest of it is you, out of the car. A later start gives you a later finish rather than a shorter Asilah. If you would rather have longer in Asilah and less at the cape, say so and the driver will build the day that way instead.

Included, in all three cars, at no extra charge. It used to be a €10 add-on and it is not one any more. The beach is five minutes on from the Caves of Hercules, and it is where the camel handlers work. We hold about half an hour for it, which is enough for a camel ride and a walk on the sand without anybody standing over you. What it costs you is time, not money. The eight and a half hours this page quotes already has it in, so skipping it saves you no fare at all. It just gets you home about half an hour sooner. The camel ride itself is not ours and never was. The handlers are their own business, you agree the price and the length of the ride with them directly before you get on rather than after, and nobody minds at all if you walk past and just put your feet in the sand. We deliberately do not quote a camel price anywhere on this site, because we do not run them and the number is whatever you settle on the day.

Up to 6 in the Economy car, and the €95 does not move between one passenger and six. It is a price for the car, so the fifth and the sixth of you ride free rather than adding a surcharge. The class guarantees 4 seats and some of the cars in it seat 6; when there are five or six of you the one thing we confirm is that a six-seater is free on your date, which is why we ask for the date with your message. If you want more room for four, the Comfort SUV is €105. For seven, the van is €120, about €17 each with seven aboard, and it is the only one of the three that seats that many. For eight or more, send us the date and we will quote it.

The same €95 that two people pay. There is no five-passenger fare and no six-passenger fare on this trip: the Economy price is per vehicle for its whole capacity, so the fifth and sixth seat are free. At six that is about €16 each for a private car with a driver who waits at every stop, which is the figure worth comparing. The same Cap Spartel, Caves of Hercules and Asilah itinerary is commonly sold per person on the big booking sites, at multiples of that. It covers the same day either way: the same three stops with the beach included, the driver waiting through all of them, and the run back to Tangier in the evening. Entrance at the caves and the lighthouse is paid at the door whatever the party size. The one thing to send us is the date, because the 6-seat cars are a subset of the class and we confirm one is free before we take the booking.

Yes, at the same fare. Cap Spartel is marginally closer to TNG than it is to the city centre, so an airport start costs us nothing and costs you nothing. It makes this a good arrival day if you land in the morning: you see the coast and the caves, you get an afternoon in Asilah, and you reach your Tangier hotel in the evening having already seen the best of what is outside the city. Send the flight number when you book so the driver can track it. If the plane is late the day shifts rather than being cancelled.

For most people, yes, and four hours is about right rather than generous. The town is small and walkable: the Portuguese ramparts along the Atlantic, the whitewashed medina inside them, and the painted murals that go up every summer during the arts festival. It is the kind of place you see properly by wandering rather than by ticking things off, and the seafood on the front is a reason to stay for lunch. If you want less than four hours there, say so and we will give the time back to Cap Spartel or get you home earlier.

The Caves of Hercules charge 80 MAD for foreign adults at the door and 40 MAD for children aged 7 to 13, free under 7. Moroccan nationals and residents pay 30 and 10, so a mixed group will not all be quoted the same number. That is the official rate, not the ticket seller improvising. At Cap Spartel the grounds, the parking and the view cost nothing, and seeing the lighthouse from outside is free; going in and climbing to the top is 50 MAD each. Both are paid on the spot and neither is in our fare, because they are not ours to sell.

No, and nor would you want to. The lanes inside the ramparts are narrow and largely pedestrian, so the driver parks just outside the walls, a couple of minutes from the main gate, and you walk in. He stays with the car and you agree a time and a spot to meet him. It is a small enough town that you will not be far from him at any point in the afternoon.

A driver. He knows the road, the stops and where to park, and he will point you at the right places for lunch, but he is not a licensed guide and he does not walk you round Asilah narrating it. That is deliberate: guiding is a licensed profession in Morocco and we do not pretend otherwise.
