Why book this route

Four hours you actually enjoy

Chefchaouen to Fes is the longest leg most travellers drive in northern Morocco, and it is the one where the bus hurts the most. A private car turns it into part of the holiday: your own departure time, your own stops, and a driver who knows where the good views are.

  • Door to door, from your riad in the blue medina to your riad in Fes.
  • You pick the departure hour instead of waiting for a 4pm bus.
  • Bags travel with you, not in a shared hold, and there is room for up to 7 people.
  • Stops on request: photos over the Rif, mint tea, lunch in a roadside village.
  • One fixed price for the whole car, agreed before you leave Chefchaouen.
  • The same drivers who work this road every week, not a relay of strangers.

Questions

Frequently asked

Don't see it? Just ask on WhatsApp.

How long is the drive from Chefchaouen to Fes?
Around 4 hours for roughly 200 km. The road leaves the Rif Mountains south of Chefchaouen and then runs through farmland and olive country down to Fes, so it is slower per kilometre than a motorway but far more interesting to look at. With a photo stop and a coffee break, plan on 4 to 4.5 hours door to door. Your driver sets off at the hour you choose, so you can arrive in Fes in time for lunch or for dinner.
How much is a private taxi from Chefchaouen to Fes?
€140 for a Comfort SUV carrying up to 4 passengers, or €170 for a Spacious Van carrying up to 7. Both are the price of the whole vehicle rather than a per-person fare, so four of you in the SUV pay exactly what a couple would. The fare covers fuel, tolls and the driver's time, including the stops you ask for along the way. Nothing is added at the end of the journey.
Do you have a smaller car for two people?
Yes, and it is the cheaper of the two. The Comfort SUV takes up to 4 passengers with their luggage and runs this route at €140, which is €30 less than the van. Unless there are five or more of you, or you are travelling with more luggage than a boot will hold, the SUV is the one to book. Tell us how many of you there are when you message and we will put the right vehicle on the job.
Is there a bus from Chefchaouen to Fes?
Yes. CTM runs a small number of departures a day and it costs around 100 MAD per person, which is far cheaper than a private car. The trade-offs are the fixed timetable, the bus station at each end rather than your riad door, and no stopping for photos. If you are travelling light and your day is flexible, take the bus. The private transfer is worth it when you are a family or a group, when you have luggage, or when you want the drive itself to be part of the trip.
Can we stop along the way?
Yes, and most travellers do. Tell the driver when you set off and he will pull over at the viewpoints on the way out of the Rif, and stop at a roadside café roughly halfway for coffee and toilets. A short stop or two adds around half an hour to the journey. If you want a longer lunch stop, say so when you book so the driver plans the day around it.
Where will the driver drop us off in Fes?
At your riad or hotel, or as close to it as a vehicle can get. Much of Fes el Bali is a pedestrian medina where no car can enter, so for those addresses the driver stops at the nearest gate, helps you out with the bags and points you to the right lane. Send us the riad name when you book and we will confirm the drop-off point in advance so there is no confusion on arrival.
Can you drop us at Fes–Saïss airport (FEZ)?
Yes, and it is the same fare: €140 in the SUV or €170 in the van. Fes airport sits about 15 km south of the city, twenty minutes or so past the medina, and we absorb that last stretch rather than charging a second fare for it. Send your flight number when you book and the driver works the departure time backwards from your check-in, allowing for the slow mountain section at the start of the drive. He drops you at the departures door with your bags. Landing at FEZ and heading north instead? We can often meet you in arrivals, but that direction depends on a car already being down there — send us your flight and we will check the date.
Do you drive Fes to Chefchaouen as well?
We do, but it depends on the date rather than being bookable on the spot. The drivers we work with are based in the north, so a Fes pickup only works when a car is already down there — usually the morning after a southbound run. When one is, it is the same fixed price in reverse: €140 for the SUV or €170 for the van, paid on arrival as always. Message us with your date and we will tell you quickly whether we can cover it. If we cannot, we will say so rather than send a car down empty and put that dead leg on your fare.
We are coming from Tangier. Can you drive us all the way to Fes?
Yes, and there are two ways to do it. If you want a night or two in the blue city, book Tangier to Chefchaouen at €125 for the van, then this transfer on to Fes whenever you are ready. If you only have the one day, we drive Tangier to Fes in a single run with 2 to 3 hours in Chefchaouen on the way, for €275. The two work out within about €20 of each other in the van, so choose on the trip you want rather than the price: the single day saves you a hotel change, and the split version buys you an evening and a sunrise in Chefchaouen, which is when the blue city is at its best.
