Chefchaouen to Tangier, with stops

€150 for a Comfort SUV carrying up to 4 passengers, or €170 for a spacious van carrying up to 7. That is the whole vehicle for the whole day, not a per-person rate, so a family of five pays the same as a couple would in the van. It covers the driving, the driver waiting at each stop, and the drop at Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG). The direct version with no stops is €99–€125 instead.

Three things, and we would rather be blunt about them than have you find out on the day. Lunch in Tangier is yours — the driver will take you to the medina and suggest where to eat, but you order and you pay. The camel ride at Cap Spartel is run by the men who own the camels; you negotiate with them directly if you want it, and you are free to walk straight past. The Caves of Hercules charge at the door: 80 MAD for foreign adults, 40 MAD for children aged 7 to 13, and free under 7. Moroccan nationals and residents pay 30 and 10, so a mixed group will not all be quoted the same number — that is the official rate, not the ticket seller improvising. Everything else — fuel, the driver's whole day, waiting time at all three stops, and the airport drop-off — is in the fixed price.

That is the question the whole booking is built around, so send us the departure time first. The full day with all three stops takes about six to seven hours from your riad, which fits comfortably in front of an evening flight. If yours leaves early afternoon, we will say so and cut a stop rather than pretend it fits — usually lunch goes first, or the medina walk gets shortened. The driver keeps an eye on the clock so you do not have to, and he would rather leave Cap Spartel ten minutes early than watch you sprint through check-in.

Yes, at the same price. Plenty of people do this route as their arrival into Tangier rather than their exit from Morocco — they are staying a night or two in the city, and the stops are just a better way to spend the drive than the motorway. Tell us the hotel instead of the flight and the day works the same way, ending at your door. It also works if you are catching the ferry: we can finish at Tangier Med port instead, though that is an hour further out, so say so when you book.

Then book the direct one instead and keep the difference — it is €99 for the Comfort SUV or €125 for the van, straight from Chefchaouen to Tangier or the airport in about two and a half hours. It stays in the vehicle, locked, with the driver. This is the practical reason the route works at all: Tangier has no useful left-luggage service, your riad in Chefchaouen is 180 km behind you, and the airport will not take bags until check-in opens. Because the car is yours for the day, the driver parks near the kasbah and stays with it while you are in the medina, then meets you at an agreed point. Take what you need for a few hours and leave the rest.

Included, and it is a real stop — the driver parks and you get out. Cap Spartel is the headland 14 km west of Tangier where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, with an 1864 lighthouse still working on a 300-metre cliff. Most people want twenty minutes to half an hour there: the viewpoint, the marker where the two seas meet, and on a clear day Spain across the strait. The stop, the grounds and the parking cost nothing, and seeing the lighthouse from outside is free — for most people that is the whole visit. Going in and climbing the stairs to the top is 50 MAD each, paid at the door, and what it buys is the view from up there. Worth it on a clear day, easy to skip on a grey one, and nobody minds if you stay at the bottom. We deliberately do not quote it, because we do not run it and the price is whatever you agree with the handler on the day. It is a short ride along the cliff top rather than a trek, mostly bought for the photograph. Agree the number and how long the ride lasts before you get on, not after — that is the ordinary advice for any camel in Morocco and it applies here. Nobody minds if you skip it; the view from the lighthouse is the actual reason to stop.

Yes, and it is the same fare. Landing at Tangier Ibn Battouta (TNG) and heading for Chefchaouen with the coast and the medina on the way is a good first day, provided the flight lands in the morning — you need the daylight, and after a long flight most people would rather see the stops than sleep through them. Only if you start early, and it usually costs you a stop later. Most riads want the room by 11am but will hold your bags for an hour or two, so a last walk up to the Spanish Mosque at sunrise or a slow breakfast in the medina is very doable before a midday departure.
