Why book this route

A van that fits seven, waiting when you land

Arriving at TNG for Chefchaouen is the one leg where the airport taxi rank does not help you. It is a two-and-a-half-hour mountain drive, not a city fare, and the drivers outside quote per head for it when they agree to go at all. A private car or van booked in advance turns it into one fixed number, one vehicle, and someone already holding your name when the doors open.

What is the nearest airport to Chefchaouen?
Chefchaouen has no airport of its own. The nearest is Tetouan Sania Ramel (TTU), 67 km away and about an hour and twenty minutes by road — but it is a small airport with a short and largely seasonal schedule, so unless you are already booked onto one of the few routes that serve it, it will not be the one you fly into. Tangier Ibn Battouta (TNG) is the practical answer for almost everyone: around 130 km and about two and a half hours, with flights from across Europe all year round. That is the airport this transfer is built around. If you are coming up from the south instead, Fes–Saïss (FEZ) is roughly 200 km and four hours, and we drive that leg as well.
Can you collect us from Tetouan airport (TTU) instead?
Send us the flight and we will tell you whether we can cover it and what it costs. Tetouan is a shorter drive than Tangier, so it is not the fare quoted on this page — we would rather give you the real number than let you plan around the wrong one. In practice most people who ask this end up flying into Tangier anyway, simply because TTU has so few routes to choose from.
How much is a private transfer from Tangier airport to Chefchaouen?
€99 for a Comfort SUV carrying up to 4 passengers, or €125 for a Spacious van carrying up to 7. Both prices are for the whole vehicle rather than per person, so a group of six pays the same as a couple would in the van. The fare is fixed before you fly and does not change with your landing hour — a midnight arrival costs the same as a midday one, and there is no airport surcharge.
Do you have a van for 6 or 7 passengers with luggage?
Yes. The Spacious van is €125 from TNG to Chefchaouen and seats up to 7 with a separate luggage area behind the last row — enough for seven cabin bags and roughly five or six full-size suitcases. That is the vehicle most groups arriving on a flight want, because the alternative is two taxis that lose each other on the mountain road. If there are more than 7 of you, message us with the flight and we will put two vehicles on it and quote both together.
How long is the drive from Tangier airport to Chefchaouen?
Around 130 km and roughly 2 to 2.5 hours. The road leaves the airport heading south past Tetouan, then climbs the N2 into the Rif Mountains for the last hour. It is paved and well signposted the whole way, but it winds, so the last stretch is slower than the distance suggests. Add a little in summer when the Tetouan junction gets busy.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing, and it costs nothing. We hold your flight number and check it before the driver leaves for the airport, so a delayed plane just means he arrives later too. If you are diverted or the flight is cancelled outright, message us on WhatsApp when you know your new arrival and we move the booking to it. You have not paid anything up front, so there is nothing to refund either way.
Where exactly will the driver meet me at TNG?
In the public arrivals hall, past baggage claim and customs, holding a sign with your name on it. Tangier Ibn Battouta is a small airport with one arrivals exit, so he is easy to find — you will not need to hunt through a crowd. You get his WhatsApp number and photo before you travel, so you can message him directly the moment your phone reconnects.
Do we have to go into Tangier city first?
No. The airport sits southwest of Tangier, and the road to Chefchaouen runs south from there, so going into the city would be a detour. Your driver takes you straight out towards Tetouan and the Rif. If you do want to stop in Tangier on the way — to drop a bag, see the Kasbah, or eat — tell us when you book and we will build the time in.
Is there a bus or a shared taxi from Tangier airport to Chefchaouen?
Not directly. There is no bus from the airport terminal at all, so the public-transport version is a taxi into Tangier, then the CTM bus station, then a bus that runs a few times a day and takes around 3.5 hours with stops. It is much cheaper if you are travelling alone and your flight lands in the morning. It stops making sense with luggage, with children, in a group, or on an evening flight — which is most people arriving at TNG for Chefchaouen. Can you drive us back to Tangier airport at the end?
Yes. It is a second one-way booking rather than a return ticket, charged at the same fare again: €99 for the Comfort SUV or €125 for the van, so both directions come to €198 or €250. There is no discount for booking the pair, because they are two separate days of driving. Tell us your flight time and we work backwards from it, usually leaving Chefchaouen about four hours before departure so the mountain road and check-in both have slack. You can arrange both legs in the same WhatsApp thread when you first message us.
Can we stop for photos or lunch on the way?
The photo stop at the mountain pass above Chefchaouen costs nothing and takes about ten minutes — just tell the driver, or ask when you book. On a clear day it is the view everyone remembers from the drive. A proper lunch stop is fine too; say so in advance so the driver plans the timing rather than improvising it after a long flight.
Should we book the airport transfer or the day trip?
It comes down to where you sleep. Book this transfer if you are staying in Chefchaouen: it is one way, the driver leaves once you are at your riad, and whenever you head back that is a separate one-way at the same fare. Book the day trip instead if you want to see Chefchaouen and be back in Tangier the same evening — €135 for the SUV or €150 for the van, with the driver waiting around 5 hours in the Blue City. Same day out and back is cheaper as the day trip (€135 against €198 for two one-ways) because it is one driver and one vehicle for a single day.
Is this a private driver or a shared airport shuttle?
A private driver, and never shared. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall at Tangier-Ibn Battouta with a sign, and the vehicle carries only your group from the terminal to your riad in Chefchaouen. Some operators call this a private transfer and others a private driver; it is the same booking either way. The fare covers the drive down to Chefchaouen, not a driver kept on hand for the rest of your stay.

What do you need

Short hops inside Tangier (airport, medina, city centre, train station) are paused while we take on more drivers. Tangier Med, Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Fes and the rest are running as normal. Asilah is off the list for now.
